Strange Kids

You know how I like to take pictures of kids. Last semester, our design teacher made us discover Loretta Lux, this German fine-art photographer whose photographs of kids have created a big mystery among digital design artists. In fact, as you can see if you look at her official website www.lorettalux.de, most of her photographs are similar to the one I present you here which title is "Study of a Boy 1(2002)". In fact, there are all so sophisticated in their light and impressions of color: as wash-out and so clear at the same time. These children seem so unreal, like little ghosts and you almost feel a bit scared looking at how they are serious. How Loretta Lux makes her works of art, nobody knows except herself and a lot of people made assumptions. A former painter, we know that she transforms the composition of her photographs after, but the techniques she uses remain a mystery. Nevertheless, all her works are worth looking for and will make you wondering about these strange creatures she is studying through her photographs. Here, I present you this small little boy that is looking seriously and in a superior way at you, while you are examining him. According to Richard Lacayo in April 2, 2007 Time Magazine, "there's even a residue of feminist thinking" in this photograph. A women inspecting, studying a "wary little man in the making." This is a good starting idea, which would have to be analyzed deeper since I am not quite sure of its strenght. However, I think there is confrontation between the look of the boy and the photographer or viewer's one, but a feminist idea... Hum...
